A core point of this book is to make rowing a part of your daily life. Do not just try it occasionally. Do not plan on it three times a week. Do it moderately (at your own pace) every day, to the extent your schedule allows.
This suggestion is directed to the vast majority of us who are not already on a team or training for competition. Those folks in training have coaches to direct them and will want to balance heavy exertion with rest.
For most of us, rest is not the challenge. We live sedentary lives. Get daily exercise in your comfort zone to stimulate your body to breathe more deeply.
